Beecroft (Men’s) Probus Club has just celebrated its 40th anniversary and to mark the occasion the club has published a history: “Forty Years of Fellowship”.

Authored by historian, educator and life member Dr Stuart Braga, it is a story of people: of those who founded Rotary, the evolution of Probus Clubs, their place in the local community, and of the diverse characters involved over the club’s long life in Beecroft.

One of the many stories in Stuart’s book is of club member Torres Ferres, Lancaster pathfinder navigator, shot down, parachuting to safety and ending the war in the infamous Stalag 3. Repatriated at war’s end he married his sweetheart just ten days after returning home, becoming a distinguished public servant and long serving Probian.
